Doctor Recognized and Other Chiropractic News

Chiropractors often deserve a greater level of respect and acceptance among the medical community. This situation will hopefully begin to change next month, as the chiropractic profession celebrates National Chiropractic Health Month. The main purpose of this month is to raise awareness for the profession among the general public, particularly in discussions surrounding back pain and the opioid crisis. Back pain is a major reason for opioid prescriptions and has been over the past several years. Chiropractors offer a safe alternative to reducing back pain that does not require these potentially fatal drugs, and having a month dedicated to the practice will hopefully bring in more people who could be helped by it.

Via chronicle-express.com Chiropractors nationwide will mark October as National Chiropractic Health Month, promoting chiropractic care as a way of treating back pain without resorting to opioid painkillers, which can lead to addiction.

“For many Americans, back pain is a very disabling condition that prevents them from enjoying the life they want to live,” said Dr. Samuel Ascioti of Corning Chiropractic Associates. “With the ongoing opioid crisis, we feel that it is very important for the public to know that there are different approaches to treating back pain, such as chiropractic care, that do not involve the use of prescription drugs.”

The Steuben County Legislature seems to agree, as it’s issued a proclamation recognizing National Chiropractic Health Month.

Chiropractors are a group of medical professionals who are more misunderstood than perhaps any other group. Members of the public are confused as to what exactly they do and why they do not fit into the rest of the practice of medicine. But in fact, going to a chiropractor is similar in many ways to any doctor’s appointment. Basic steps like the taking of X-rays, logging medical history, and performing physical examinations are common in any medical office. This article will show just how similar to a primary physician a chiropractor can be, and will hopefully demystify the process.

acatoday.org Many new patients are not sure what to expect during their first appointment with a Doctor of Chiropractic (DC). Chiropractors start by taking a patient’s history and then performing a physical examination to develop a working diagnosis. Imaging or lab tests (such as MRI, CT scan or X-ray) may be used to confirm a diagnosis.
